Memories of Havana 3

Rigoberto Mena Santana is a contemporary Cuban painter and printmaker internationally recognized for his contributions to abstract art and contemporary Cuban visual culture. Mena explores memory, migration, language, spirituality, and the emotional architecture of place, creating layered compositions that balance expressive abstraction with poetic symbolism.

Educated at the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts and the Higher Institute of Industrial Design (ISDI) in Havana, Mena has been an influential figure in Cuban contemporary art for more than three decades. Mena's work has been exhibited extensively throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, with solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas in Miami, Galería Habana, The Painting Center in New York, and institutions in Mexico, Germany, and France. His work has also been featured in the Havana Biennial, ARCO Madrid, Art Brussels, Art Toronto, Beijing Art Fair, PINTA New York, and numerous museum exhibitions examining the evolution of contemporary Cuban abstraction.

His paintings are held in significant public collections, including the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), the Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College, the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas, among others.
